Style: Plaid Shirt and Baby Weight

shirt: old navy (similar) // skirt: target (similar) // shoes: ann taylor (similar)
 // watch: fossil // bracelets: h&m (similar)

I wore plaid... to work. I don't know if that's considered appropriate or not, but I did it. So, boom. Okay, I don't actually say boom. But anyway, I felt like the pencil skirt made the plaid a little more work appropriate, though obviously this wouldn't fly in everyone's office. Ours is pretty casual; I think I'm the only person who ever wears pencil skirts. But um, my pencil skirts finally fit so I just feel like I need to wear them. I mean... Baby Weight. I think that subject probably deserves its own post. I don't know if people are even interested in discussing the subject, BUT it is not my favorite. I didn't remotely care about gaining weight during my pregnancy (I gained over 50lbs which I think is hilarious), but it was when the weight stuck around afterward and my pants didn't fit that it got annoying. I actually lost weight relatively quickly and consistently (cheers to the power of breastfeeding!) but it still felt like a long time of wearing "interim" pants (I bought one pair of jeans and one pair of black slacks and wore them over and over). We don't own a scale, so I just went off of whether my pants fit... when they finally did it was like a small miracle. And miracles deserve to be celebrated by wearing pencil skirts. With plaid, obviously.

  1. Good for you! A patient came into my office yesterday and their baby was five months old and she was so concerned about not having lost it yet. We were all trying to assure her that it'll happen eventually and that her body just did something crazy and unusual. The plaid looks great with the skirt and great on you! Plaid is OK at my office too, but we are very casual.

  2. It can be hard to loose that weight when all your time is about your child now! You look fabulous! I am loving how you dress up the plaid/dressed down your skirt!

  3. i think the plaid looks great! i could definitely wear that to work, but not the buffalo red plaid that is super popular. yay for pencil skirts (and pants) fitting. i have obviously never had a baby but i have friends who've struggled with the weight thing, and i know it can be hard, not to mention amazing when the clothes start fitting again :)

  5. You look awesome and I really like this outfit. Let's be real, even when the baby weight is all gone, clothes don't fit like they used to!

  8. Love the plaid, and I think the pencil skirt definitely makes it office appropriate! :)
    I was so so sick during pregnancy that after I gave birth I ended up being below my pre-pregnancy weight. A small victory for the 10 months of constant throwing up I guess.

  9. Looking amazing Ashley, and congrats on loosing some of the baby weight too. I think I lost 20-25 lbs are each pregnancy but I gained a good 15 of it back I think a few months afterwards. It can be tough for sure, but celebrations do deserve some plaid and a pencil skirt.

  11. Scales are stupid. I've been at the same weight for the past few months, but I feel like my pants fit differently from one month to the next. If any of my pencil skirts fit right now - other than my print ones - I'd pair them with plaid.

  12. I've worn plaid shirts to the office with pencil skirts before too :) I guess when people around you are wearing blue denim ona weekday, a bit of plaid isn't really a big deal! ;)

    It is so frustrating post-baby trying to guess what in your wardrobe will still fit, haha! But it takes a while to put the weight on, it will take a while to work it all off again! :) No rush.

  13. I totally go by how my pants fit to determine where I'm at weight-wise. Scales are overrated! And I say yes to plaid in the office. If plaid is wrong, then I don't want to be right ;)

  14. I LOVE this combination! And we own a scale, but I don't think I have ever stepped on it. Haha. I'm so thankful for breastfeeding...the fat sucker! And now that Aiden is mobile and always wants to be pulled around in his wagon, I never stop moving and the weight has shed quickly. Phew! You look great!

  15. Yay for your skirts fitting again! That must feel great! I don't see plaid too much in the workplace but I don't see why not! Love this combination on you!

Thanks so much for your comment! I reply to my comments via email, but I can't do that if you are a no-reply blogger (if you don't know what that means, you probably are). Check out this tutorial to fix it!
