The Past Month: Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Baby Business

Hi friends! I'm baaaaack! Well, for now anyway. Life with a newborn is unpredictable at best :) Thank you all for your sweet comments on the blog and social media - your kind words made us feel so loved. I fully intended to start blogging again a few weeks ago, but it just didn't happen. Eric has had the last 4 weeks off and I wanted to spend as much time with him (and the baby) as possible.

The last month has been surreal, in a really good way. First of all, a baby sleeps in my house now (and yes, I use the word "sleep" loosely). He is absolutely gorgeous (I'm biased, obviously) and so much fun. He loves to eat (I'm actually considering "Piglet" as his blog nickname because of the crazy noises he makes when he's eating) and he has started smiling (mostly for his dad). He is a daily reminder of God's amazing love and the precious gifts he has for us.

Secondly, Eric graduated a few weeks ago with his MBA! I am so proud of his hard work the past year and a half. It's honestly gone by so fast (despite living apart this summer). It's been such a fun season of life - all of his classes were in the building next to the one I work in so we would ride together and see each other multiple times during the day. He also had a lot of time at home, which was so nice. But today he starts a new job! I am sooooo excited for him, but a little bummed that our (lazy) month of being home together has ended.

Let's see... what else has happened? Oh yes, Christmas. All of a sudden it was Christmas (thank goodness I finished shopping before the babe was born). We spent nearly a week with Eric's parents, which was wonderful. We essentially did there what we had been doing at home (sitting around in our pajamas, eating good food and watching movies). It was such a special time. Then we celebrated with my family by eating finger foods, watching Thunder basketball and opening the best stockings ever. It was such a fun holiday, and having a 3 week old only made it better.

leggings: alternative apparel (similar) // zip hoodie: target // glasses: c/o firmoo

But now, my babe is a month old (!) and life is slowly starting to have a regular rhythm. These pictures give a pretty accurate description of what I'm wearing most days (though my hair usually looks like a rat slept in it). I have 6 more weeks before I go back to work and I fully intend to enjoy them and take advantage of this time with my babe - I know it will fly by! We'll see how blogging goes... I fully intend to continue to post a few times a week but I apologize in advance if I don't get to respond to you all in a timely manner. I have hated not commenting on your blogs, but know that I am reading them (usually during a 4am feeding... funsies).

P.S. If you're a blogger, you've probably heard of Firmoo before, but I want to be sure to mention them. They make really affordable glasses in lots of different shapes and styles. You can upload your picture to "try them on" which is really helpful. I think it's a great place to get glasses in a style you wouldn't normally wear, like the crazy ones I'm wearing (that I love!).

P.P.S. Apparently my child likes to stick his tongue out. He's so anti-establishment.

P.P.P.S. Want to see more of our house (aka creep on our bedrooms)? Check out the house tour.

  4. Ahhhhh soo cute! Both of you, really :) How great that you all had the last 4 weeks to spend together - and glad to hear you made the most of it. Such a special treat that you'll never have again with just a newborn (as my mom always reminded me, next time around, you'll also have a toddler [or whatever] so enjoy it because it'll never be quite like this). Glad to hear you've got a little bit of routine going too - I had a hard time without it, and though I enjoyed the first weeks with Hendrik I did better and better as he had more of a routine and I could feel a little more like myself that way. Congrats again - he really is gorgeous.

  5. ahhh, he's such a cutie! It's so awesome that your husband's month of freedom coincided with having a newborn! We are still trying to decide how much time John should take off when our kid arrives. This makes me so impatient for May to get here, and then also panicked because I haven't gotten anything ready!

  12. Your little man is adorable!! Glad your Christmas break was so nice. Enjoy lots of newborn snuggles because they grow up so fast. Cliche, I know, but it's the truth. How's the pup doing with the new baby? It's always an adjustment. My cats went into hiding for a few weeks when we brought Olive home and now they are buddies. Happy New Year!!

  13. It's so good that you've been taking a break from everything (including blogging - even though I super want to hear what's been going on) to enjoy these few weeks with your little family. You look so happy in these pictures, and I know you probably washed your hair before you took them, but your hair looks SO GOOD. The baby, obviously, is precious. Love the uncontrollable tongue.

  15. OMG Cuteness!!! He is just too much! What an amazing blessing Eric was able to be home so long. It can be hard to juggle a newborn all by yourself while you are recovery from childbirth. Sounds like you had some wonderful time together to get to know your little guy!

You are afjusting much better than I did! I hope you are getting enough rest. Four weeks is such a fantastic time to have with your husband. I hope his new job goes fabulously!

Thanks so much for your comment! I reply to my comments via email, but I can't do that if you are a no-reply blogger (if you don't know what that means, you probably are). Check out this tutorial to fix it!
