Maternity Style: Shower Stripes

shirt: pea in the pod (similar)  (similar non-maternity) // jeans: h&m (similar non-maternity
// shoes: naturalizer // necklace: vintage (similar)

*bump status: 30 weeks

I actually wore this to my first baby shower this past weekend. This is NOT a "baby shower outfit" - I had plans to wear a cute striped dress, but I woke up on Saturday morning and it was freezing outside and I said to myself "you're the pregnant guest of honor. You do what you want." So I wore jeans. And I have no regrets. NO REGRETS.

I'll share more about my shower later (so many pictures of people you don't care about - it's going to be awesome) but let me just say that I had forgotten what it was like to have people give you really nice gifts. It happened at our wedding (nearly 6 years ago) but I had forgotten how awesome/humbling it is. First you are so pumped because you got a $60 play-mat for your (hopefully) cute baby, but then it's like "oh man, you spent $60 on me just because I got pregnant." So weird. But so wonderful.

  2. I totally understand what you mean about the gifts, I just had my bridal shower about a week ago and it was strange. Like all of those people showed up just for me and spent money on me because they were invited. It was awesome, but yes, definitely humbling. Also, I love that you wore whatever you wanted for your shower. You are the guest of honor, you decide what to wear. And it looks lovely!

  3. That striped top is beautiful, Ashley and I am truly loving those Loafers. Naturalizers win especially while pregnant. They are comfy and stylish. You look adorable for the shower and I cannot wait to see more photos from it.

    Happy Hump Day Gorgeous Curls!!

  4. the whole baby shower is kinda weird when you think about it. lol. i am not sure i can have one - i did not enjoy my wedding showers, i don't like to be the center of attention, maybe it's because i always wear dresses instead of jeans ;) ps i freaking love this top!

  6. You look adorable!! That top is super cute. Yay for baby stuff! Who knew a play mat could ever be so exciting?!
I had two baby showers and wore the same dress to both ... in fact, I'm wearing the same dress right now. And I wore it Monday, too. Basically, I wear it pretty much any time I go out into public these days :)

  7. Yeah, showers are so nice and so awkward! I just went to one for a friend at church a couple weeks ago, and man, I was remembering how uncomfortable it is to sit in front of a large group of people and open presents! And you are so grateful, but it starts to feel insincere when you open every single present and exclaim the same thing! But I think people understand, because we've all had to be the guest of honor at some point!

  9. Love this look!! The striped top is such a cute maternity shirt. Glad you stuck to your guns and wore what you wanted to your shower. My husband used to say, "You get whatever you want because you're the pregnant one!" I kind of miss that :)

  12. That top is so adorable!! Instead of horizontal stripes making you look wider, The ruffled front actually highlights you adorable bump! Great choice for your shower outfit :) Plus, when you're sitting in a chair and all eyes are on you, you don't want to accidentally flash anyone! My cousin had to lay a blanket across her lap to avoid making that mistake. I'd say, you were smarter :)

  13. "Hopefully cute." That killed me.

I agree that it is a weird experience to have people give you nice gifts. It almost feels a little outdated, because in times past your friends and family would give you household or baby gifts to get you set up, when you were young and had never been on your own before and didn't have anything. I already had a lot of the things I needed for a house when I got married - after years of college and apartments and roommates I had quite a collection. I also had my own money with which to buy those things. Even though it felt strange to me, I realized that all of the people who were getting us things were really excited for us - they wanted to do something for us to show us how excited they were. I'm doubly sure this is true for baby showers. It is humbling to have people who care about you show you how invested they are in your life and well being!

  15. It's so humbling isn't it?! And then you add the hormones in and the happy tears and it's just a wonderful day and your cheeks hurt from smiling so much! At least I hope that is what is was like for you!

  20. Hahaha, I never thought about the gifts like that. Too funny. What was the best gift you got? I am getting something for a friend's shower, and I'd love to know what a pregnant lady sees as the best gift from the shower.

Also, you look so classy here and your hair is amazing. Who gives a hoot if you're not wearing a dress? It's a great outfit. You rock maternity wear so well.

  23. I felt so awkward at my wedding shower. I mean, the gifts were great, but I have a terrible time being the center of attention and getting showered with presents. Buuut I'm so happy that you were able to great things for your little peanut :) And way to go wearing what you wanted to ! You look so great!
