I don't love red. At all. Which is kind of weird considering that it is one of the colors of the university that I work for. I've just never loved it. It's so... loud. But there are moments when loud is a good thing. Like the 4th of July. Hands-down one of my favorite holidays. The barbeques, the pool time, the firecrackers... I mean, does that not just give you the warm and fuzzies? The 4th of July is also one week from my birthday, so that may or may not have something to do with it :)
I thought it would be fun to showcase a few good 4th of July outfits from the archives. Ironically enough, these are some of the only outfits I have ever posted with red in them.
This is what I'll be wearing the Thursday at work before the long weekend.
This is my favorite vintage dress - it would be great for a laid-back 4th of July party - large leaf as an accessory is optional (outfit details).
And probably one my favorite outfit photos ever, this is what I've worn the past few years to my family's 4th of July barbecue. I say wearing the same thing over is... lazy smart (outfit details).
What do you wear on the 4th of July?

That vintage dress is so cute! I tend to shy away from red, too. It can be a very loud color, but it looks really nice on you!
ReplyDeleteThese are all great, but the dress is my favorite! I've had a love hate relationship with red over the years. It was my favorite color for a long time, but I think I got burnt out on it when I was in college, because well, everyone in Nebraska wears red all the time. I've only recently started wearing it more frequently, and I'm starting to really like it again. Just not during football season!
ReplyDeleteRed looks great on you! All of these outfits are cute and festive! Love the vintage dress the best!

that vintage dress is incredible! I used to have a lot of red in my closet, gradually phased it out, and now it seems like I'm bringing it back in! I bought a few new tank tops and I'm trying to finalize my 4th of July outfit...and manicure. funny how it's such a festive day to dress for!

I am not a huge red fan either. It seems so bold. I think it looks great on you though! I agree, dressing for this holiday is so much fun! That dress is awesome.

Really pretty outfit! You look amazing in red. I love all the looks, the polka dots are cute. I am a real fan of the jean short look with the hairband. Love it!

It is one of my favorite holidays also. It's interesting that you don't wear a lot of red, because I think the color is very flattering on you. That dress is my favorite and looks great on you (leaf accessory and all, lol!)!

I'm with you; I own about two red things, and I rarely/never wear them. I just don't really like the color, on me, anyway. But I adore this outfit - a subtle way to do red, white, and blue. You look so polished and elegant!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! The vintage dress is my favorite. So pretty,
ReplyDeleteI don't have much red at all either! I love that vintage dress! You look good in red!

Very nice outfit... I like a little red and blue action somethings too

Red was always one of my favorite colors, but then I realized that I don't actually wear it very much, and that maybe it's not really my favorite color anymore haha. It looks great on you though, and that vintage dress is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI can tell you love the holiday with all of these great looks!! That vintage dress is AH-MAZING!!! You look lovely in red, but it is definitely louder than your usual blue/green palette. Hope you have a wonderful 4th of July :)
ReplyDeleteTerrific outfit suggestions. I see why that dress is one of favorite vintage pieces - what a delightful find!
ReplyDeleteAnd if red is not a part of the normal rotation in your wardrobe, then having a set 4th of July outfit is definitely smart.
The last outfit with the bandana is actually the outfit that first brought me to your blog, I believe! (Aside from that one time I used your "how to make a teardrop necklace" tutorial but didn't put two and two together until much later that that was you.) I love red because it's bold. I love bright, bright colors. Red makes me happy (when it comes to clothes) but not so much when it comes to design/wall colors/etc.
ReplyDeleteYou look adorable, every outfit is so perfect! ;)

Love the outfits! Those Toms wedges are so adorable! Their black ones are on my to-buy list!
ReplyDeleteooo I love all of these outfits but I think the dress is my favorite! I am with you on the red, it's just not a color I naturally gravitate towards- makes me think of either the 4th of July or Christmas. Not a bad thing, but just not me all the time. I'm also all about wearing outfits all the time, especially if its new, but holidays I tend to wear the same thing every year :)
ReplyDeleteI cannot get over how cute your hair looks short! The polka dot skirt is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit, I love how it is very Americana without screaming "I Love America!". Hope you are having a wonderful summer :)
ReplyDeleteThese are all perfect for 4th of July (or summer in general)! Love the vintage dress the most :)

i love all of these outfits, but especially the shorts + tank. so cute! i kinda dig the idea of wearing the same thing every year.
ReplyDeleteThese outfits are so great! I feel the same way about wearing red. I don't like to draw a lot of attention to myself so I tend to shy away from it, even though I love the color. My mom always wore a red wool coat she'd had for years. I think it made her look more powerful. I too now have a red coat but it rarely gets cold enough to wear it. I think I own 4 red items- a top, a tank, a skirt, and that jacket. I wore my skirt for the 4th this year.
