You know when you feel really confident in an outfit and really excited to post it (this applies to crazy bloggers like me) and it just doesn't quite translate in pictures? Well, that is this outfit. I loved wearing it, felt great in it, but unfortunately these pictures have a "whomp, whomp" thing going on. I don't really care too much, but you know, I felt like I had to acknowledge it :)
I actually wore this outfit to see a ballet this past weekend. I used to be a ballet dancer (a long time ago; don't expect any secret video performances of me to appear on YouTube) and I love seeing it performed. In the seven years that my husband and I have been dating/married, this was the first time he took me to a ballet. He said that in the past he would look up shows and think, "oh Ashley would love this" but then he would think "but, maaaaan, I don't want to go to a ballet." I think that is pretty hilarious and I don't blame him. Ballet isn't everyone's jam. BUT, we both really enjoyed the performance (set to Haydn's The Seasons for any dorks out there) and it was fun to get dressed up and go CRAYZEEEEE (to be read in a college-hype-up voice which was pretty much the opposite of our evening).
So tell me, have you ever convinced your significant other to take you to a ballet?

I love the ballet! I also used to be a dancer (well, I still do tap, but that's not elegant in the same way as ballet), and love going to see performances. I know my husband's not super into it, but I've gotten him to take me to the Nutcracker at Christmas twice in our nine years together … and he also got tickets for this indie dance cabaret thing this past Valentine's Day, but it was a really strange performance and we both thought it was weird and hilarious.
ReplyDeleteWOW You look so cute!! Such a great dress, I love that when you get a dress and you feel so confident in it!
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous, I am going to have to invest in more cute skinny belts for sure and those heels are perfect. The only ballet I have been to recently is my little girls, and it was fun to dress nice for that. Rachel xo
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't the ballet, but when we were dating, I took my hubby to see the opera, The Magic Flute. I thought it would be a fun one, because they had giant 10-foot puppets on stage and [I think] the music and story is really fun, but he fell asleep. He claims he liked it but was just tired from work. I think I'll have to try another one out on him :) I really love your dress! So pretty and I love the pop of the belt!
ReplyDeleteNot unless the Nutcracker counts! But I have convinced him to go to a few other things like the Legally Blonde musical! I think you look great in the pics. Navy and pink are nice colors to pair together. So glad you had a nice time! It can be so fun to take time and dress up for a date, especially when it is typically rare!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this dress! And how fun is the ballet - I totally see you as a ballerina! My husband would probably take me if I begged him to but it would also require that I do something in return which just seems unnecessary. You look gorgeous as always!

How fun!! The dress looks beautiful on you. In college, my friends and I went to see the American Ballet Company (I think that was the company at least) and actually saw Natalie Portman's husband husband perform! So pretty.

What a fun idea for a date night! This dress really was perfect for that!!

Love that dress. It looks gorgeous on you.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried to go to a ballet in a long time. I did try to convince my husband to take me to see Miley Cyrus. That's basically the same thing, right? ha. jk. I can relate to loving your outfit in real life and it not translating to the blog, but I think your enthusiasm helps bring the photos to life. I want this dress when you're done with it :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't really want to go to the ballet, so I haven't tried to convince my husband. I did get him to go along to the Beauty and the Beast musical. That was fun!
ReplyDeleteUmmmm...it translated for me. So gorgeous. And look at that pop o' pink. Hooray! My husband would probably have to convince ME to go. I do not like sitting in theaters. My butt hurts, I always have to pee during the best parts, and I loathe crowds of people. (I blame him for making me watch so many disease outbreak movies of the apocalyptic type.) Geez, how does he put up with me? Now he needs to take you dancing in that beauty.
ReplyDeleteI totally know what you mean about outfits not translating in pictures--I hate when that happens! But this look is fantastic and what a fabulous hubby to take you to the ballet. Mine took me to see Chicago the musical once and he will never let me forget it :)

The ballet sounds like a lot of fun! I absolutely love this dress on you! The pop of color in your belt is perfect :)

The dress is cute and I'm glad you guys finally went to the ballet. :-) I think I'll be like your husband though, but I'd have to try it out first.

I have never gone to a ballet. Andrew, who will pretty much do anything for me, really doesn't want to do anything related to going to a ballet. Like, ever. Sigh, I guess that is what girlfriends are for.
ReplyDeleteI hate when an outfit I love doesn't come across right in photos! It then makes you question if the outfit was ever flattering to begin with haha. But I actually love this dress on you! The color is pretty, and that cut is always a win in my book.
ReplyDeleteI did ballet through my sophomore year of college and miss is so much! I wish there was a ballet company near me :)

First of all you look gorgeous. Why are you critiquing the photos? That navy dress is beautiful and has lots of flare. I love it. The bright belt was a nice touch. Perfect for a Ballet. What a cute and romantic date! But yeah, a ballet evening isn't for everyone.
ReplyDeleteMany many years ago, since I was 5 years old, I also did some Ballet for about 3 years. Of course I remember none of it now. I will tell you though that it made a decent dancer out of me. =)
You look gorgeous! The dress is really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteyour dress is gorgeous- love the pintucking detailing!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, gorgeous dress! The shape and the texture are so pretty. I have been to many plays and even a few musicals with my husband, but I really don't think he could do the ballet. I would love to go some day though,
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean about looking and feeling great in an outfit, and then it doesn't photo well. Pretty much an everyday thing for me haha. I grew up dancing too! But no, I doubt my husband would ever bring me to a ballet. I think he'd pay someone to go with me before he would!
ReplyDeleteI love the dress! No "whomp, whomp" thing going on for me :)
ReplyDeleteThat dress is simply gorgeous! I love it :)
ReplyDeleteIf you have a sec, I'd love if you can come over my blog and see my latest. xo - http://www.fashchronicles.blogspot.com
First of all, this dress looks great on you! I love it. And it totally doesn't have a whomp whomp at all! But I totally know how you feel. I have felt like an outfit is super cute in person, but the pictures just don't do it justice. You look fab!

Never really been to a ballet performance, but let me tell you that you look lovely in this dress. The cobalt colour suits you and I like how you've added a pop of pink in terms of the skinny belt. What I also like is the use of nude pumps which let's the dress remain the focus of attention. May I ask what handbag/clutch did you carry? Just curious! :)
ReplyDeleteOf course! I carried a really cute silver clutch. It's simple but elegant (I think, haha!). I wish I would have gotten a picture with it!
DeleteYou look great! I think it definitely translated in real life! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteI took my whole family to The Nutcracker in December. We have realized it is not our thing. I was sad to learn that. That is so sweet of your husband to take you! : )
Jenni
going to the ballet is on my 30 before 30 :) but hubby would probably drag his feet and whine all day, like i was taking him shopping or something ;)
ReplyDeleteoh and the dress is gorgeous, no womp womp here!
ReplyDeleteAh, I LOVE that dress on you! That is so funny about Eric, but I'm glad he finally took you and that you both enjoyed it :D
ReplyDeleteThat dress is just darling on you! How sweet that your hubby took you to see the ballet...that is a keeper right there! :) I don't think my husband would sit through it!

The Tiny Heart
How wonderful! I love that he took you. :) And I love your dress!
ReplyDeleteThe color of your dress is gorgeous against your skin tone! Very flattering! I have only been to one ballet (if you don't count the few not so great performances I've been in myself), but I enjoyed it! I think my husband would enjoy the music (he has his BA in music) and I would enjoy the dancing! Now I'll have to keep my eye out for any upcoming performances. I'm glad he finally took you! Sounds like you had a ton of fun!

How fun that you got to go to a ballet finally! And there is nothing womp-wompy about this outfit. That dress is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove love love love love this dress on you! And random note: You resemble my best friend who lives in Baltimore. And she used to be a ballerina back in the day, too! I recently bought a fun polka dot dress from Anthro, but haven't gotten around to doing an outfit post. You've inspired me!
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty!!! I like your blog!!
ReplyDeletewould you like to follow each other with GFC and Bloglovin? let me know...

It was totally the fact that you gushed about him on the internet that made him buy the tickets. Right?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE any reason to get dressed up, and I can totally relate to when your wonderful outfit falls flat in your photos. But I think you do look lovely in this dress!
Chic on the Cheap
I think this combination is gorgeous! I really love the texture to this dress!
ReplyDeleteThe dress look fabulous on you! I love the detail on the top and the pink belt was the perfect accent. Jeremy me and I have never attended a ballet together, we do, however, enjoy going to musicals.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty spring dress!

I've never actually been a ballet before, but this is definitely the type of dress I'd want to wear.
ReplyDeleteAnthro always has the best fitting pieces, and I can imagine I'd have to buy this after trying it on. I also love the bright blue on you!

Something About That
It must be interesting to see a ballet, I have never been to that before. Your dress is super pretty and this is totally my style of look. The dress suits you perfectly.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!!!!

Yeah, I hate that...when you have a cute outfit that doesn't photograph as well...Oh well, you look cute anyway and I'm glad you had a good time at the ballet! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is SO super cute! I love the color combo and the dress is just so adorable! You look great!

I LOVE the ballet, Adam despises it. Once when we were dating I convinced him to go see Annie with me, a touring production of it had come to Purdue. I figured he's a ginger and so is Annie so maybe this will get him hooked and then I can work him up to a ballet. My plan failed miserably and he was asleep, literally, about 15 minutes into the show. I've begged to go to a ballet and he just won't bite. I don't blame him though, he would probably be bored out of his mind.
ReplyDeleteI do love that dress on you though! I completely get where you are coming from though on taking pictures and just not feeling it. I wore this dress to my sisters graduation last year and felt great in it, I really thought I was rocking it. I put it on for Easter and had Adam take a picture (we don't have any full length mirrors in our house so I rely on him to take a picture so I an use it as a mirror ;) ) and I felt like I looked terrible! I've actually lost weight since I wore it last, but after seeing the picture I couldn't believe I ever wore it. Oh well.
I think your outfit has photographed beautifully! The simple things like a pretty dress and cute bright belt are universal and even if it's not an over the top layered and styled outfit, it's stunning and simple and easy to appreciate :)
ReplyDeleteSo sweet that you got taken out to the ballet! :) I went once when I was younger, not my cup of tea!
Away From Blue
I can't say my boyfriend has ever taken me to a ballet, nor will he ever I'm sure! He doesn't really like shows of any kind--plays, musicals, etc. Sooooo that'll have to be a night with girlfriends instead haha.
ReplyDeleteI think that dress is gorgeous! I'm not all that surprised that it comes from Anthro because it looks like such a nice material and looks to be made very well. Gorgeous dress!
ASHLEY! You look amazing in this dress, and I love the addition of the pink belt!! :)
