Even though I technically work in an office, the dress code isn't strictly professional. I work in student affairs, which basically means I work with students at a university in a non-academic setting. I have to look nice (so the students don't think I'm one of them - it happens!) but I think I've worn a suit maybe twice in three years. Even though my dress code isn't super-strict, I know the value of a good white dress shirt. When I first started working, I searched far and wide for a good one for a good price and finally settled on one I didn't love from Target. That shirt has since been deceased (to Salvation Army), so when In Style asked me to try one of their "perfect fit white shirts" of course I said yes. The shirt is measured by bra size, which is kind of genius (no more gaping at the buttons or pulling across the chest). Their are four styles to choose from, which is great since we all have different office environments. It costs a little more than a cheapie like me would usually spend, but I definitely think it's worth the investment.
What is your work dress code like? No one ever told me what to wear - I just kind of watched other people and made assumptions. If you work at home, do you make yourself get out of sweats? (I know I would struggle with that!)
so cute love that skirt!

this look is so crisp and clean! I need a new white shirt too. this may be a contender.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of crisp white dress shirts in different styles- they're so versatile! I love that yours has no collar, it's dressy enough, but still casual :)

Ohh I've heard about these before! My current white button-down is from Joe Fresh <3 I haven't worn it in ages though. I really love your skirt too!

Love this professional look! I'm actually in the market for a new white button down. My current one was a gift and from Express, and the top button is way too low to look professional, so I'm always wearing another layer underneath it. It's just too much of a hassle for a simple white button-down.
ReplyDeleteI need a new white crisp shirt! There's nothing like it! Your skirt is also so great! Looking beautiful and professional! Tammy.

I can't believe no one thought of sizing that way before! It makes so much sense! I love the way that dress shirt looks with your skirt and your necklace is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how white new white shirts are! This one really looks great on you, and I love it with the skirt and booties :)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how novel and brilliant it is to measure for a button-up shirt by bra size! I'm definitely looking into these! Also, what is your background and how did you get into your current job? It sounds like something I would like to do :)
ReplyDeleteThat is kind of genius, so cool they got you to try it! And you look amazing :)
ReplyDeleteMy work wardrobe is sooo lacking. My office is business casual with an emphasis on the casual. I never wear a suit - I don't even own one! The casual nature of the office allows me to really let my business wardrobe go to seed. As someone who is almost 30, I should probably work on that!
ReplyDeletelove the skirt pattern !

That is a smart idea. I have had this problem and this is a great look for an office and no you do not look like a student now.

that sizing is kind of brilliant! I wonder how they determine the shoulders, arm length, shirt length, etc? I'd be tempted to order one, but I already have a white button-up shirt and don't wear it all that often, so it's probably not something I should be spending that much money on!
ReplyDeleteMy office has a very casual dress code. I'm usually one of the more dressed up people, because I frequently wear dresses or skirts. Most everyone else just wears jeans!
More places should do button-downs by boob size! I have problems with shirts gapping all over the place, so I always have to wear camis underneath them. And yes, I get dressed every day even though I work from home. It may not be office-wear, but I'm always ready to go if I need to leave the house!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a white button down--actually, I've never really been successful in finding a button down that's long enough to tuck in--they do seem to be a tricky shirt to find the right fit for!
ReplyDeleteClassic! :D

I keep thinking I'll write a post about the pros and cons of living in a college town. Getting mistaken for a college student-I think that's a pro, especially 10 years from now!
ReplyDeleteI've seen those shirts and thought the sizing by bra was interesting. I hate when the shirt gaps. Thanks for the review! I also really like that skirt!

What a great outfit! And that shirt fits you so well...I HATE when shirts don't fit across the chest...that's usually why I try to avoid button up shirts because they never work for me! (And you are giving me tons of ideas/inspiration for wearing booties)- you pull it off so well!

I love white shirt. I was for years on hunt for good white shirt. Always there is something- not good quality fabric, style what I don't like. Sometimes it's not about price. I have to admit I want over sized man white shirt. They're timeless. I'm working most of the time from home, making jewelry. I love to dress up. It makes everyday so much fun.
ReplyDeleteYou have styled up your look so lovely. Skirt is gorgeous and with little booties looks fabulous.

My work dress code literally lets me wear anything I want. Most of the time I dress up but lately I have been wearing gym shorts. Sigh, I know! It's bad but I am milking these last months.
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute! I love the patterned skirt!

Is there such a designation as business casual plus? Because that's what we are. Corporate casual maybe? Liike, khakis, jeans, polos, etc would be totally out of place but no one wears suits daily. I'm usually in a pencil skirt (or pants) and a blouse or shell and a cardigan.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit turned out great. I love that crisp white shirt which every woman should have at least a couple of. That skirt is great and I love that you belted it. So chic, polished and elegant. I love that you are posting OOTDs twice a week, now. =)

I love a good white dress shirt and this one does not disappoint. It is so flattering and I love the skirt with it too! I have a cream colored one that is kind of similar but it's sad that I don't wear it much...I just have so many clothes that it gets forgotten about. I might need to wear it tomorrow with skinny jeans:)
ReplyDeleteThis skirt is just lovely! You always have the best office wear :)

I LOVE that shirt, Ashley. It looks wonderful on you - I want one for myself now! I think there's something so crisp, clean, and fresh about a white button up, and I love that yours is collarless. Also, that's awesome that you work in student affairs - what kind of role do you have? I've worked in Residence Life, Admissions, Orientation, and Academic Advising, and I have loved all of it. I'm getting my Master's in School Counseling right now, but I'm also applying for Academic Advising and Career Services positions :)
