Decorating with Candles & a Giveaway

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries.

Let's talk about candles, shall we? I love candles - the scent, the sound of the flickering flame (is it obvious I don't have a fireplace?) - all of it. I also love that a pretty candle can make a great, cheap decor item. Some of my favorite vignettes around my house include candles that I've collected. Let's have a look, shall we?

This shelf sits above the desk in our office. The shelf was a hand-me-down that we painted the same color as the wall, and nearly every other item was free or very inexpensive, including that green and white candle (near the "s") that I got on sale from Anthropologie for $7.

I got this tray from a thrift store and painted it with chalkboard paint. It holds coasters and the remotes for the tv. That giant candle is from Pottery Barn (purchased after Christmas for $3). I think it's supposed to be a winter candle, but eh, it doesn't smell like evergreen so I leave it out all year. I think the other star of this picture is that remote that has bite marks all over it. My dog is such an angel.

I painted this hand-me-down table and now it sits in our living room. It's a very functional table, but even the most functional items need a little bit of prettiness. I got that basket as a gift, and I filled with cheap white candlesticks and tea candles from IKEA. I often use the candles for other things, but I figured instead of storing them in a closet, why not store them in the open?

The top of the dresser in our master bedroom is one of my favorite areas where candles are used as decor. I randomly set the white pillar candles up there one day and they have been there ever since.

And that brings me to the giveaway! Diamond Candles has generously offered one reader a candle of their choice! Diamond Candles are all natural soy candles with a ring hidden in every candle. Yes, a ring. Each ring is buried within the wax, so you can't get it until you've burned the candle down to the middle. You're probably asking yourself, "why a ring?" Well, I thought the same thing until I got a Diamond Candle of my own. Then I decided the answer was "why not?" It was honestly kind of exciting when I discovered my ring (they wrapped in foil, so the ring isn't covered in wax). You can read more about it on their facebook page.

And now, my friends, it's time for you to enter the giveaway and get your own Diamond Candle!

  7. Ashley, I love your dresser with the table-fan and the white candles. Candles add a sense of warmth to any room, and when lit they fill the room with fragrance. :)

  8. I love all your little decorative touches, and I think the almost vintage looking fan is brilliant, because it's functional and fun!
