I love to bake. When I was a kid, my mom would give me the task of baking chocolate chip cookies for the family. The cookies always turned out great, but I was more notorious for eating the cookie dough while I was baking. My younger brothers would hide out in the kitchen and try to catch me in the act. And if they caught me, it wasn't pretty. I would get so mad. Probably because they also hid plastic spiders under my comforter and because they threw bangsnaps (those fireworks that pop on the ground) at my butt when I walked through the hall. But... I digress.
I have recently been in the progress of reorganizing my pantry (check out my chalkboard pantry labels here) and I wanted a place for all of the random baking items I have that I have to pull out of the pantry every time I make blueberry muffins. A whole baking station in the kitchen would be awesome, but our home is small and we don't really have any extra space to dedicate to something like that. So I put together a baking cart that I store in my pantry and can easily pull out when I start baking. I used the IKEA Raskog cart, various containers from the dollar store and TJ Maxx, and this is how it turned out:
Other foods that I use for baking (brown sugar, whole wheat flour, etc) are in storage containers on the pantry shelf because I use them for things other than baking. But everything I have that is used solely for baking is in the cart:
It fits in the pantry so well and it is so easy to roll around - it is definitely a great addition to the kitchen. Do you have a baking station? Do you store all of your baking items together? Anyone have this awesome IKEA cart (I'm obsessed)?
oohhh my gosh, this bad boy would be PERFECT for my mom. she's a baking nut so she'd be over the moon to have something cute and organized like this. i'm showing her this post asap haha

Oh good! I hope it can be helpful to others - it has been an awesome addition to our kitchen!
DeleteVery cute idea! Makes baking so fun for you :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, it really does! I get excited to pull out my cart every time I'm ready to bake something!
DeleteYou just saved my life, so thank you!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a pantry, but I do have room for a cart in my kitchen. AHHHH. I love this.
Do it, do it! I would love to see it :)
DeleteI love it! I don't have much room in the pantry, so this would be a great idea for my kitchen. If you get a chance, please share this on my linky party: http://suburbsmama.blogspot.com/2013/04/sunday-linky-party-2.html
ReplyDeleteDone!
DeleteSuch a great storage solution!! I've never been much of a baker but I'm totally craving chocolate chip cookies now :)
ReplyDeleteHaha me too... well, chocolate chip cookie dough that is... :)
Deletecute idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks Claire! I'll use it to bake you something soon :)
Deleteooh, what a great idea! I hate hunting for and pulling out all the same stuff every time I bake. Sadly, our "pantry" is just a big built in cabinet thing....no where for a cart. But I should at least get a nice box or something to keep all the frequently used baking stuff in one place in there.
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely do that! That way you just have to pull out one box when you bake - I love that idea!
Deletethis is such a clever idea! i know i would be more inclined to do more baking if i had a fun spot for all of my supplies. and this cart is beyond cute, i saw it in person at ikea a couple weeks ago and it just seemed like something that would be so practical to have and could have a number of different uses!
ReplyDeleteI bake at least a few times a week. I love this idea!!
