April - Where My Dolla Bills Went

Oh hey, End Of April. I guess it's time for me to disclose my financial information once again. I'm really not supposed to buying anything these days (I'm headed to Europe this summer and I would much rather save my money to spend there)... but it happened. Kind of. Allow me to explain:

I have this thing with gift cards. When I get them, I hold onto them like they're gold (or titanium, or platinum, or whatever your equivalent of bling is). I think it's because I don't like spending money on things I don't really need (like new clothes), but if someone gives me a gift card, it's like they are forcing me to buy something for myself and I've got to make sure it's the right thing. I've alluded to it before, and it turns out this isn't normal (no one has ever sympathized) so any aspiring psychologists out there are welcome to diagnose. Anyway, I purchased the first item below with a gift card I got for Christmas. Yeah, Christmas.

1. Target Floral Pants Guys, floral pants are so awesome. I am so happy they are so "in" right now. I have been looking for "the perfect pair" for a while - my poor Bestie received quite a few pictures of me in fitting rooms in various pairs of pants. I wanted something bright, not-jeans, with a slim fit. Hard to find, but these lovely pants fit the bill! $27.99 - purchased with a gift card.

2. Lace Tee I was wandering around at TJ Maxx (how I ended up there, I have no idea, I swear) and I stumbled across this pretty lace tee (it's Cynthia Rowley, but I couldn't find the exact item online). At $16.99, it seemed like a good purchase, especially since I love lace and during the summer I wear light tees pretty much every day.

Total:  $44.98
Total Cash: $16.99

So there you have it. Anyone else buy anything fun this month? Or use an old gift card (pleeeease, tell me I'm not alone)?

  2. I have the same problem with gift cards! I shop all the time, but there is added pressure when I have a GC that I should buy something more special! I have a gift card to Loft from 2 Christmases ago, and I used to find things at Loft all the time, but since I have free money to spend there, I'm completely striking out. It doesn't make sense! I also have a Dillard's gift card from this Christmas that I haven't spent yet. I do sort of feel like I need to save it for something special.

Love the floral pants! I have the tank top in that print and it goes with everything!!

    1. Okay, this makes me feel much better! If someone gives you free money, you just feel like you've got to make the purchase really really good!

  3. You're not alone! I held on to an Anthro gift card for about 6 months because I wanted to make sure I bought the perfect things with it and not waste it on a bunch of little things that were just okay. 6 months later, I'm still super happy with my purchase! So, I think it's perfectly fine to wait for something you really love!

    1. I did the exact same thing with an Anthro card! Because I never shop there, I felt like I had to hold onto my gift card until I found the perfect thing, because who knows the next time I would get anything from Anthro?!

  4. You are not alone. The whole point of a gift card is to treat yourself to something that you would not normally purchase yourself. I have a $50 gift card to Anthro & am thinking of getting 1 of those $48 belts...definitely not something I would purchase on my own but its quality & they make classic stuff & I would get a lot if usage from the $48 belt,...thats my splurge but am waiting to see if the belt goes on sale then maybe I also get something else. Would love their fancy candles but want something to last...

  6. Those pants are amazing!!!!!

I'm the complete opposite with gift cards... I like to think I would save it for the "next season's styles" but I'm such a clearance shopper that I go directly there like the next day! LOL!!!

Otherwise I'll forget I even have such gift card and then it gets lost...

I feel like I've been on a shopping spree this past weekend!!! I bought more than I should but I love my buys nonetheless....

  8. Those pants are super cute! and yes, I'm the same way with gift cards too. Last month I spent a Macy's gift card that I had for over a year, and a Nordstrom gift card I had for at least 6 months. I think I still have a Pottery Barn Kids gift card from when my son was born (he's turning 4), but I blame that on the fact that the PBK store closest to me closed down a few years back. When I have gift cards, I usually hold onto them as long as I can, so that I can purchase the perfect item with them!

    1. Hahah you've had a gift card for 4 years?! Okay, that's amazing. I'm totally with you - hold onto to it until you find the perfect thing!

  9. Ooh, I like the floral pants!! And you're not alone... I still have a ticket master gift card from 2 Christmases ago. I've gone to concerts since then, but I've never used a gift card on ticketmaster before, so I'm always paranoid that the show will sell out while I'm figuring out my payment haha. I wish I could hang on to clothes store gift cards though!

  10. Great pants! I'm sort of the opposite with gift cards. All of a sudden I feel like, "OOH FREE MONEY!" and have zero restraint haha.

  11. Haha I am the same way with gift cards usually! I've gotten better at using them sooner but only because I had an amex gift card that went down in value because I hadn't used it within a year! I'm not sure I could pull off floral pants but these are really cute!!

  13. If you get a diagnosis, let me know, because I am the exact same way. It takes me like 8 years to spend a gift card.

Thanks so much for your comment! I reply to my comments via email, but I can't do that if you are a no-reply blogger (if you don't know what that means, you probably are). Check out this tutorial to fix it!
