I love rules so much that I have self-imposed rules about when certain items of clothing can be worn. Boots in September? Heck no (in Oklahoma the weather is usually still in the 90s). Sandals in March? Eh. I usually don't go there. For some reason I hang on to the old season - I think it's because I realize that I have so many clothing items that I haven't worn yet. I also keep all of my out-of-season items packed away so that I don't have access to them (read more about my methods of closet organizing) so I'm not tempted to break my own rules. I'm quite a stickler. So that's why you are seeing me in boots and tights today. I had to get in at least one more "winter outfit." But don't worry, you'll see me embracing florals and sundresses come April :)
Do you have any "rules" about when certain items can be worn? White after labor day? Sandals before the temperature reaches 60 degrees? Or do you embrace the changing seasons with open arms?

So what house would you have been sorted into? Definitely not Slytherin ;) I always fancied myself a Gryffindor even though I am a big wimp. I love the sweater with that necklace. So cute together. I don't really have any rules. I wear things whenever I feel like it. Wore some white shoes the other day and my mom joked that I couldn't wear them yet...

Hahaha, Amy! I hope not slytherin. Truthfully, I'd probably be a Hufflepuff, which is a teeny bit embarrassing :) At least we had Cedric!
DeleteI WISH I was as organized as that! I agree with the boots in September rule, it's just not practical in OK!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to meet another Okie blogger! :)
It's so not! I'm usually craving my boots and fall weather in September, but here it's just another month of summer.
DeleteYay for new blog friends!
I live in Florida, and I can't even think about boots until about November, and then come march if it's still too cold for boots I get incredibly angry....which is why I'm angry today because it is "cold" and I'm wearing boots. :) I love your rules...I should probably do rules of my own considering my closet is STUFFED.
ReplyDeleteHaha, isn't that so funny how we we can't wait for the change of seasons every year!? I wish I could just embrace spring clothing, but I'm holding onto my boots for a few more weeks.
DeleteYou cannot go wrong with Black & White. As far as Fashion Rules, I throw them out of the window. As long as something looks good on me and I feel great in it I wear it, usually season-appropriate of course, but as far as is it trendy now or was it trendy 5 or 10 years ago, I could care less.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your necklace. Please direct me to the link. I want to buy it, too. Thanks, Ada. =)
I'm with you on trends... as long as you you feel good than I say go for it!
DeleteHere is the link to necklace I bought. Be cautious with the seller, they've gotten some bad feedback. I didn't have any problems though!

I am also a big fan of structure. I am happiest when I know what the rules are so I can follow them :)
ReplyDeleteIn Ohio the cold weather lasts forever so I usually turn in my boots in May and pick them up again in September. I feel like boots complete every outfit so I am always a little sad to see them go
Cute outfit! I am more of a rule follower too... Glad I'm not alone :)
ReplyDeleteMe too, Ash. It's nice to know there are some other sticklers out there!
DeleteI love this outfit and that necklace!!!! :) :) :)
ReplyDeleteI am not a rule follower. I wear white after Labor Day. I bust out my skirts/dresses as soon as it warms up.
I WANT boots in Sept but sometimes I don't get that luxury either.
I wish I could just throw caution to the wind, haha!
DeleteI love this necklace! As for fashion rules, I think in general I follow the typical rules because here in the Midwest you know we don't get to crazy with fashion. I could put together some cool "winter white" looks to post on blogland, but I'd look like a total fashion victim my the normal Midwesterner if I actual wore it around town. I'm chomping at the bit for summer clothes, but I also have a number of winter things I want to wear just one more time.

Hahaha oh my goodness - I've thought the same thing about "winter white." I love the idea in theory, but I don't really feel like I could pull it off here either. People would be like "what are you wearing?!"
DeleteI'm glad I'm not the only person who is trying to give their boots and tights a few more weeks :)
This is so pretty :) Boots and a skirt or dress with tights have been my uniform lately! Going to check out your closet organizing tips (I definitely need them).
ReplyDeleteDuring the winter, I live in a dress and tights. I just hate wearing dress pants!
DeleteSuper cute
ReplyDeleteThanks ♥♥
DeleteI am so glad I found your blog, I love your fashion and design. And, I haven't been to any of the shops you linked, so I am excited about finding more places to shop.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I always follow the rule: No socks with sandals (but I've seen it work!)
Haha, no socks with sandals is a pretty good rule to follow!
DeleteThanks for visiting, Ashley!
I love the outfit! The boots are amazing! I don't really have a lot of rules when it comes to what time of the year I can wear something. But I do not like it when people wear flip flops in the winter!
ReplyDeleteJessica @ Sunny Days and Starry Nights
I've never understood that either! A lot of students on the college campus I work at do it, and I just want to be a mom and tell them to cover their toes!
DeleteOne of the most confusing things about the Bay Area is the weather -- it's super hot in October and March, which are months I associate with boots and sweaters and scarves and hot chocolate. You'd think after 3 years I'd have learned... not so much, though.

Oklahoma is the exact same way - tomorrow the weather forecast is 81 degrees! I don't know what to do with that - too hot for boots, but sandals still just feel so wrong!
DeleteIt's funny - I am such a rule follower, except when it comes to fashion. I like to do my own thing, so much so that my husband often raises his eyebrows at my oddball get ups.:) But I'm ok with that!
ReplyDeleteHaha, that's how you know you have a good outfit - when the husband raises his eyebrows!
DeleteThis is such a cute outfit!! I'm completely in love with that necklace.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge rule follower too, but not so much when it comes to dressing for the weather. Mostly because I live in Canada, and if I dressed for the weather, I'd pretty much be wearing boots till June haha.
Ps: Love that you have a golden doodle too! They're absolutely the best dogs. I love mine to bits!
Yay for goldendoodles! I can't wait to get home from work everyday to see Winston - it's silly, really :)
DeleteI've never been to Canada, but that totally makes sense. You probably have to force yourself into spring!
Very cute! Love that cute green necklace, what a fun piece.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ana! I've been wearing it A LOT.
DeleteI'm a huge rule-follower, too! Only not when it comes to fashion. I don't really have any rules for fashion, just a guideline of wear something unexpected! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only rule-follower, Rachel!
DeleteI think I tend to hold onto the last season too although im not much for rules. This necklace is so pretty! Love the oversized sweater.
