Jewelry Organization and Plastic Drawers

I recently reorganized my jewels jewelry and I thought I would share my little set up today. I've always wanted a pretty vanity area, but that's just not in the cards for anytime soon. Our bedroom is really small and since I share it with a boy, I didn't want to cover a wall with jewels jewelry and other girly things. I want our bedroom to seem like a shared space, not a girl-haven (Random pet-peeve: when master bedrooms look like a sorority girl's bedroom. My theory is that husbands generally don't like pink floral bedspreads or lace shams.).

So anyway, our bedroom closet had an empty shelf that had become a dumping ground for a lot of random stuff. I decided that would be the perfect place to make my "jewelry station." Here it is:

I painted all the closets that green color when we first moved in and even though I have no idea why I did it, I think it provides a pretty backdrop for all my jewels jewelry.

I got the egg crate from Target and it holds all my rings and stud earrings. The candle was a gift from my aunt and is literally the only animal print thing I have ever owned.

I used some hooks that were leftover from the coffee bar to hang my necklaces.

This little goblet-thing holds my bobby pins and hair pins. And if you're wondering, I almost never wear them because I never fix my hair. But they look pretty :)

Eric got me the jewelry-holder-thing from Urban Outfitters a few years ago. And those drawers? They used to look like this:

With a little spray paint (use either spray paint for plastic or a spray primer meant for plastic) and some leftover fabric scraps, I turned it into this:

For the drawers I used some spray adhesive to attach some fabrics scraps to the inside of the drawers. Then I just trimmed the fabric to make it flush with the front of the drawer. It doesn't necessarily look great from the inside, but I'm really happy with how it looks on the outside.

Gotta love a free makeover, eh?

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I love when organization turns out to be pretty, don't you?

  4. What a great idea! I have those same white plastic bins sitting in my bathroom, and they are so ugly. I have never thought of spray painting them! I want to do this immediately. Maybe tomorrow.

Thanks so much for your comment! I reply to my comments via email, but I can't do that if you are a no-reply blogger (if you don't know what that means, you probably are). Check out this tutorial to fix it!
