Master Bedroom - Phase 3

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement on phase 2 of the master bedroom. Eric worked really hard on our headboard so I'm glad you all like it!

The next part of the makeover was a lot less labor intensive. In fact, all it involved was spray paint. And it was free! I love free things waaaaay too much. A couple of examples: I've had an iPhone for about 4 months now and I have yet to buy an app. Also, I take a one of the sample breadsticks from Sbarro every time I walk past the one in the student union. Are the breadsticks good? Not really. But they're free!!

Okay anyway. Here is what the side of the master bedroom opposite the bed looked like:

Ick. Lots of junk going on in the corner there. But the real story here is the dresser. It originally belonged to my grandparents and then my sweet mother passed it on to us. But it didn't really fit in with the rest of the room. I originally wanted to paint it... I was thinking white to contrast with the wall. When I mentioned this to my sweet mother she said "What?! That is a nice dresser!"

Oh sweet mother.

So I did an examination. My sweet mother was right. It is a nice dresser. And it is in great shape. The brand is Ethan Allen, which really is a nice place to buy furniture. And there were really no scratches on the surface or anything. Soooo I decided NOT to paint it.

But it did undergo a transformation. Here is the finished product:

As you can see, I spray painted the handles white. Here is what they looked like before:

And after:

For anyone interested in painting any sort of knob (door handle, drawer pull, etc). I highly suggest following this method:

1. Sand (yes, you can sand metal - it feels kind of weird but it's worth the effort)
2. A coat of spray primer
3. A coat of spray paint
4. Another coat of spray paint
5. A coat of spray primer

Only time will tell if the paint lasts, but I did a lot of research about the best way to do it so I have high hopes!

I also spray painted the mirror (passed down from my mother-in-law) as well... Since we won't really touch it very much I skipped the sanding, and the top coat.

I love that it reflects the headboard and the sweet chandelier :)

Let's have one more look at the before and after, shall we?

Ta da!

Thanks so much for your comment! I reply to my comments via email, but I can't do that if you are a no-reply blogger (if you don't know what that means, you probably are). Check out this tutorial to fix it!
